Sharp edge tools become an extension of your will. Carving a canoe paddle from a solid piece of cherry is an inspiring way to familiarize yourself with their capabilities, and yours.
In this class, you will use a variety of planes, a spokeshave, a chisel, and cabinet scraper to reveal the beautiful, functional paddle that exists within your board. This is a great class to do with your friends, family or as a date-night activity.
Each participant will be carving one custom-sized otter-tail paddle made of solid cherry. While many similar classes work with laminated paddles, it is a fundamentally different sensory experience to work with a solid piece. You will take a deep dive into understanding wood grain and it's behavior, while enjoying an almost meditative process of shearing fibers.
We will meet 3 times on Tuesday evenings. All tools and materials are provided. Wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothes. If you are interested in bringing your own plane, block plane or spokeshave - make sure they are sharp.
Register before May 26th.
